The Bear of Delmore - from my poetry bookshelf

Image
The Heavy Bear on my Poetry Bookshelf This is a book I got from Cecelia's collection. Now on My Poetry Bookshelf. I'd studied deeply Schwartz's Bear poem, like many students in my generation. Reading the Selected New Direction poetry [NDP241][$1/75] was an open eye into the West Village of  Pasts - a Speakeasy at 86 Bedford St Chumley's with dark and laughing and chamber smoke and sweet swimming of words that summoned Crane, Stephens, O'Hara. All my life I've thrived on connections. cLICK TO HEAR:  Jack Vaughan reads The Heavy Bear Who Goes with Me excerpt: The heavy bear who goes with me,    A manifold honey to smear his face,    Clumsy and lumbering here and there,    The central ton of every place,    The hungry beating brutish one    In love with candy, anger, and sleep,    Crazy factotum, dishevelling all,    Climbs the building, kicks the football,    B...

4th of July Invite - 1970s or1980s -  "My friends, I would like to say that never, in my political history, have I ever enjoyed the privilege of presenting such a great, beloved man. A human being, not only beloved in this fair country, but beloved world over. His name, a name that’s imprinted on every heart in America: Governor Slingwell Slugwell!" http://www.lordbuckley.com/LBC_The_Word/LBC_Transcriptions/Governor_Slugwell.htm

The open web is setting like a big red sun — at least if you buy Richard Kramer’s point of view. The financial analyst with Arete Research recently noted that the open web is on its way out because Google AI is reducing content providers to mere sources of raw data. This perspective stems from a New York Times story, “In AI Era, Google Expands Search Box for Longer Queries.” [In another article, the NYT notes that it is suing Google, as well as OpenAI, in this regard.] Read the Rest on Medium >>>

Norwood Train Stn Blues

Image
Sunnyland Slim got his name from the train. Jim has featured him on his Al Compas site many times. The train ran on the Frisco Line. It would go ever so fast. Going by, it would set papers and soda bottles to flying. And it would kill people and mules and destroy their wagons if they were stuck on the tracks. They wrote about it. The Sunnyland Train. The song comes to me, when I see that Purple T.

My art over time

Image
October marks the 20th Year of Jack Vaughan's Moon Traveller Herald Blog. Featuring here some drawings from the site. I could imagine this might be incidental art for a podcast. Attemmpt at a daily comic. Middle panel shows me as I picture myself in my office. Mitt Romney drawn via Etchesketch. Helping foreigners in the Dallas Airport, I reimagined the Boarding Pass. Ed Bride garnered me the works of MoonDog. I made a cover for the cassette. Gifs provide Animation for Everyone. In these days I would have to do the coding. In the wake of 911 things changed. I tried to work with charcoal pens. This actually predates the World Wide Web. It imagines JP Morgan visiting Egypt. I was remembering Soulville Record Store in Racine. Jack and Norman had the Keys to the Kingdom. Also in Racine, the Journal Times truck would drop off the papers and Timmy Egan would fold them to throw. He'd let me ride my bike along with him on his route. Distribution of News circa 1957. Imagined Bob Dylan ...
