From Vast Variety Vault 2014 - Scylla, you're breaking my art

Image
Thinking all week of lithe Aleta in the deep A bit like Jennifer Lawrence in toga Salvaging the wreck Holding her breath Holding the line and Heading up in the dark green current Just a butt nip ahead of Scylla the giant eel With flashing sharp teeth, whoa! Going down to Felix's bodega To get this week's Herald With Prince Valiant on the cliff above.                                             -Jack Vaughan, 2014 Also See http://moontravellerherald.blogspot.com/2007/11/at-poes-grave.html

Imp Bannon at crux of collusion

Image
Bannon at the controls of the Cambridge Analytica voter vaporizer. Gonna tell you a little story that'll make The Man From Uncle sound like Howdy Doody. Bear with me. THere is a train coming down the track. One is Cambridge Analytca - which is a big data operation HQ'd in Britain. The other is the IRA, the Internet Research Agency, a Russian social media hack. Cambridge Analytica comprises a bunch of statisticians and programmers who found some warm fuzzy US political venture money and joined forces with an impish devil. They set up a data gathering project, “thisisyourdigitallife,” that offered a personality prediction, and billed itself on Facebook as “a research app used by psychologists.” (I'd add a bit more on the brains and funding of thisisyourditigallife if I get the chance.) The test could go something like: Do you like Manfred Mann AND Joni Mitchell? You are a precious introvert. What about Ted Nugent AND Deep Purple? You are ou...

That’s all folks

Image
Spoken by the prayerful poet v.3 We develop the habit On the road To speak in prayer with creation every day  That we are given. We recall what the elders said about the horse that breaks down  on the road to Antioch the one ridden by Saul  looking for a new way of being  while living in the world but changing focus from the world to being with the Lord  and hearing the voice of creation It is no Houdini but Creation wants us  to open our hearts to grace  And we do so as we develop the habit On the road To speak in prayer with creation every day  That we are given. That's Saul folks. -Jack Vaughan v.2 We develop the habit On the road To speak in prayer with creation every day That we are given. Mother Mary

Image
It was Nineteen Hundred and Nineteen and many people died - of a thing, frightening thing, called the flu. Mary Rita Hickey - OUR MOTHER - was born into that, it was just about a hundred years ago. At the home on Langley Road in Brighton. She survived, she lived, she became strong. She was proud of her strength. Right through her last days - she remembered her mother-in-law's judgement -Kate said of Mary: "She doesnt have - a lazy bone - in her body."  Proud of that - even these days - as she slowed down. There was her father Lawrence and her mother Katherine - both born in Ireland - he was a Motor Man on the Boston Elevated Line - she worked as domestic help - brothers John and Lonnie - sister Claire, and I only ever heard Claire call her "sister". All preceding her in death. "I'm  the last" - she'd think out loud as we sat around lately. A Brighton girl! But she played girls basketball in the West End. She was a jumping center. Her nic...

Dancing on our grave

via GIPHY When my sister died, they bought a stone/when the stone arrived, they went to see it/my brother coming along. my father was very glad to have a grave and headstone, as he'd almost fallen into the Medeterranean from a B-25 in WWII, and had urgently wresteled with the fact that he could just disappear/so 'they danced on their grave'/ he left in Feb 2005, she in Mar 2018, with total faith they'd be together hereafter/ I always felt my mother had greater humor than my father ... but looking at these pictures I see that he made her laugh, and that there are two parts of humor - making humor and enjoying humor. - Jack Vaughan (photos: Michael Vaughan)
