Musical citizens of the world, unite! Pursue the uncorrupted, the firmly rooted, the groovy. For decades now, the sounds we hear have gotten narrower and homogenized…traditions get tossed aside, in favor of moogs, wa-was, digital didactics and a reign of usurpers. Sill, whatcha gonna do once you’ve fallen off of that gone dead train? Join, for example, a spring dance in Pakistan, maybe? Hardly a gathering of Pashto elders, but younger urbanites of the 1960’s with an ear to the West. So be it. Good fun! Who knew? There’s a big tent in this program: from old Sudan to contemporary Germany, from sentimental Ethiopia to rakish Puerto Rico. It all makes sense to me and that’s how I feel. - Jim Haas
